Denim Day

For SAAM 2024, we will celebrate Denim Day on Wednesday, April 24th from 10:30am-1:30pm in White Plaza and through Digital Programming.

Denim Day grew out of a 1998 Italian Supreme Court Decision where a rape conviction was overturned because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans she must have helped the person who raped her remove her jeans, thereby implying consent. Since then, wearing jeans on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual harassment, abuse, assault and rape.
